€125 credit for domestic electricity users

The Government of Ireland has announced a fourth scheme to credit every domestic electricity customers’ account with €250 during 2024 and into 2025, due to the inflated wholesale costs of electricity.

This credits will be applied to eligible domestic Pay As You Go (PAYG) and bill pay electricity Meter Point Reference Numbers (MPRNs) on supply with Pinergy.

The Credits will be applied as per the rules of the Scheme;

  • First payment will be made by Friday the 22nd of November.
  • Second payment will be made by Friday the 24th of January.

Customers do not need to take any action. Each credit will be €125 (incld VAT).

Pinergy is administering this scheme to our customers’ MPRNs who qualify on behalf of the Government of Ireland and Commission for Regulation of Utilities.

  • For some Pinergy Classic customers you may need to activate the Government credit when you next make a top-up payment of at least €10. It may take up to 3 top ups to claim the full €125 credit.
  • Customers on bill pay will see the credit on their invoices.

Further information on the Scheme is also available from ESB Networks and Commission for Regulation of Utilities.

Please note the following changes for payments this winter.

Submeter Scheme

If you have an account number with an electricity supplier, but there is not a unique MPRN for your account, you may have a sub-meter account. This may occur when an existing dwelling has been divided for the purposes of accommodating additional people (e.g. an apartment block), and an independent meter has been provided for this accommodation, with the sub-meter still connected to the main MRPN.

To support these households, there is a separate scheme, called the Submeter Support Scheme, being operated directly between electricity suppliers and the Government to provide these accounts with electricity credits.  Customers do not need to take any action.

Low Usage homes are excluded from the Scheme

A low usage electricity account is one which has not met the minimum consumption threshold of 150kWh in each period of three months in the four consecutive periods between 1 September 2023 and ending on 1 June 2024. If you are a vunerable customer and have a low usage home please contact us.
