€200 credit for domestic electricity users

The Government of Ireland has announced a second scheme to credit every domestic electricity customers’ account with €600 during 2022 and into 2023, due to the rising wholesale costs of electricity.

This credits will be applied to eligible domestic Pay As You Go (PAYG) and bill pay electricity Meter Point Reference Numbers (MPRNs) on supply with Pinergy.

The Credits will be applied as per the rules of the Scheme;

  • First payment period will be up to 31st December 2022.
  • Second payment period will be up to 28 February 2023.
  • Third payment period will be up to 30 April 2023.

Pinergy will make the third set of payments by March 16th 2023. 

Customers do not need to take any action. Each credit will be €200 (incld VAT).

Pinergy is administering this scheme to our customers’ MPRNs who qualify on behalf of the Government of Ireland and Commission for Regulation of Utilities.

  • For some Pinergy Classic customers you may need to activate the Government credit when you next make a top-up payment of at least €10. It may take up to 3 top ups to claim the full €200 credit.
  • Customers on bill pay will see the credit on their invoices.
  • If you share an MPRN with other homes, then the credit will be applied equally up to the value of €200 across all Meters.

What do I have to do to make sure I receive the payment?

The good news is that you do not need to do anything. It will be automatically applied to your domestic Electricity MPRN.

For some Pinergy Classic customers you may need to activate the Government credit when you next make a top-up payment of at least €10. It may take up to 3 top ups to claim the full €200 credit.

If you share an MPRN with other homes, then the credit will be applied equally up to the value of €200 across all Meters.

Who is eligible for this payment?

This scheme only applies to domestic electricity Meter Point Reference Numbers (MPRN). So, for example it does not apply to commercial premises or other non-residential properties.

It will be applied to both Bill-pay accounts such as Pinergy Lifestyle as well as Pay As You Go accounts such as Pinergy Smart and Classic.

Domestic MPRNs are typically referred to as DG1 and DG2 meters. The DG group that your meter is typically available for bill-pay accounts on your Invoice or for Pay as you go customers by calling us on 0818 363 749.

 

How will I know when I have received my credit?

If you have a Bill-pay account you will see a credit applied to your account called Government Electricity Credit.

If you have a Pay as You Go Account, we will add a top up payment to the value of €200 to your MPRN. You will be able to see your new balance on your Pinergy App or In Home Display.

Do I have Pinergy Classic or Smart?

Pinergy Classic customers will have a Pin pad in their home to apply credit to their meter.

Pinergy Smart customers will have a In Home Display and Smart App in their home that gives them energy consumption data and the ability to make payments.

If I have connectivity issues with my Pinergy meter what should I do?

A small number of Pinergy customers can experience connectivity issues with their Meter. In these cases, we will email you with a specific code to allow you to top up your Meter manually.

What is my MPRN?

Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is the unique 11 digit number assigned to your electricity connection and Meter.

What happens, if I switch supplier?

If you switch supplier, it will be up to your electricity supplier on the 27th October for the first set of payments to make the payment to you.

Your supplier on 20th December 2022 for the second set of payments and your supplier on 27th February 2023 to credit you with the third payment even if you are no longer on their supply.

I have Pinergy Smart or Classic and the balance has gone above €1000?

The Maximum balance on a Pinergy Smart or Classic is €1000. If you input a vend code that would increase meter balance above €1000, it will reject.

An error code will appear, and you will need to wait until balance reduces by the respective amount before you can input any vend code successfully.
