Volatile & inflated wholesale energy costs and higher regulated charges lead Pinergy to announce price increase

09 December 2022

Pinergy, the smart clean energy supply & solutions company has today announced an increase to its standard residential electricity prices from 9th January 2023.

The latest change will result in a 14% increase to the typical household cost which is equivalent to a €6.16 per week increase (incl. VAT) in an Estimated Annual Bill (EAB) based on a domestic customer using typical consumption per annum on standard tariffs. There is no change to Pinergy’s existing standing charges.  In parallel, Pinergy is increasing the payment to those using solar panels & other microgeneration technologies under its MicroGen plan to 25c per kWh for any excess electricity sold back to the grid.

Pinergy CEO, Enda Gunnell, says: “Unfortunately, the momentum towards much required market structural reforms across the European energy sector have stalled in recent weeks including the possibility of a price cap on gas used for electricity generation. We had hoped these changes would be in place quickly and had delayed this increase for as long as possible. However, the outlook on the global wholesale markets continues to be very volatile and challenging going into 2023. The wholesale price increases in global energy markets have been further exacerbated by local increases in regulated market charges that became effective in recent months.”

He added: “Any customers that need additional assistance should as a first step contact us, and we will also do our best to support them with a range of Winter Energy Supports. Pinergy customers are uniquely empowered with the latest in smart technologies that allows them to see their energy consumption every day and identify potential areas of energy waste to be addressed. Already, we have seen a 7% decrease in energy consumption by Pinergy residential customers over the last year. Finally, our customers that generate their own electricity will benefit from the highest tariff on the market for any excess power they sell back to the grid.”
