Pinergy urges businesses to avail of new €55m Fund to help move away from fossil fuels

Pinergy’s measurement as a service offering well placed to support businesses in tracking and managing their climate action contributions

Pinergy, the smart energy provider of 100% clean electricity, has welcomed the Irish Government’s latest announcement around the launch of a new €55 million ‘Green Transition’ fund.  The Fund is designed to help businesses plan for a sustainable future, moving away from a dependence on fossil fuels and towards more sustainable, cost-effective alternatives.

Jon Jerromes, Head of Sales at Pinergy said: “This is a very welcome development by the Government and the European Union.  We have been urging policymakers on the need to provide more financial help to businesses so they can install and use smart metering solutions such as those provided by Pinergy that will more effectively measure their energy usage & carbon emissions.”

He continued: “We are now calling on all qualifying businesses to avail of this funding so they can put in place the necessary smart energy management tools, ensuring that what gets measured, gets managed for a greener, more sustainable and more resilient business environment. We hope that other businesses will come within the scope of this funding soon.”

The Green Transition Fund is part of Ireland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) which is funded by the European Union. The Fund comprises of two parts, ‘The Climate Planning Fund for Business, allowing businesses to develop a business-specific plan to reduce the use of fossil fuels with a grant of €1,800 for planning and up to €50,000 of matched funding available for qualifying Enterprises.

The second part is ‘The Enterprise Emissions Reduction Investment Fund’, which will provide up to €1 million in individual funding specifically for manufacturing businesses to invest in smart metering, energy monitoring and carbon-neutral heating processes.

The Fund is available to businesses who are clients of Enterprise Ireland, Údarás na Gaeltachta & IDA Ireland and can apply for funding grants HERE

Earlier this year, Pinergy highlighted how most businesses in Ireland want to take positive action and play their part in a sustainable future. However, to date, many businesses have been struggling to comprehensively measure, monitor and report on the range of metrics that they contribute to as part of the energy transition and in taking positive climate action.

According to independent research* conducted by iReach on behalf of Pinergy, 27 per cent of SME’s, employing less than 100 people, do not currently have any tools for effectively measuring, monitoring, and reporting their consumption when it comes to energy, waste, water, air quality and carbon footprint.

This latest €55m Green Transition Fund incorporating the Enterprise Emissions Reduction Investment Fund will now support businesses with financial grants to ensure they can play their part and equip themselves with the tools and smart technologies available to monitor and measure their contributions and reduce carbon emissions more effectively.

Pinergy recently launched a new Measurement as a Service offering giving businesses the ability to measure the performance of their premises or buildings under various metrics.  Installing a series of smart meters and sensors in the buildings of its customers, Pinergy can now offer businesses real-time data, automated reporting, target and benchmark-setting, carbon reporting and various other sustainability measurements across each of the categories covering energy, water, waste and air quality. These insights and data can be used for ESG property accreditations such as BREEAM, GRESB and LEED.
