PINERGY has today (Monday 2 November) launched its latest innovations to help Irish electricity consumers manage and control their energy usage and costs.

Launched by rugby legend Paul O’Connell who is brand ambassador and a shareholder in PINERGY, the new service – PINERGYsmart – offers consumers a smart in-home display (IHD) and a first to market mobile app which, combined, can conveniently help consumers use less and pay less for their electricity.

“From its beginning, PINERGY has been about using smart technology to put customers in control of how they use and pay for their energy. We have a simple message “Use Less-Pay Less” and PINERGYsmart will empower customers to do just that” said Paul O’Connell.

Enda Gunnell, CEO PINERGY said “Our focus has always been on innovation. Electricity consumers expect and deserve more from their utilities. Further technology innovations are underway at PINERGY which will allow us to add even more new services to help cut down on energy wastage and reduce costs directly for the customer“.

We developed the PINERGYsmart technology in the Spring of this year for our business customers, mainly property management companies and student accommodation landlords. The overwhelming positive reaction from thousands of our customers convinced us that there is a huge appetite for smart technologies that will put them in control of how they use and pay for their energy while also giving them the convenience today’s customer expects and demands.

Experience with PINERGY’s existing customers indicates that using an in-home display can help reduce electricity consumption by 20% or more, with a positive impact on their outlay – a saving of €197 in an average home – (see analysis below).

Enda Gunnell said that PINERGY is committed to continuous innovation to assist consumers cut their electricity costs. “In addition to the intelligent in-home display, we have worked with some of the brightest minds in Ireland’s IT industry to design and develop a smart app that will revolutionise how our customers buy, use and pay for their electricity, while also helping them manage their energy efficiency.”

“PINERGYsmart will allow us to analyse customers electricity usage which in turn means we can advise them on how their energy efficiency compares to similar households while also providing personalised advice on how they can use less and pay less. This unique service is in addition to ‘balance at a glance’, and 3 remote top-up options to mention but a few of the smart functions also available on the app. No other energy company is offering this level of customer service.”

In a further innovation, aimed at cutting customers’ electricity costs, PINERGY will upgrade customers’ homes with energy-efficient LED lighting at no upfront costs. Up to 20% of a domestic bill can be for home lighting and an average home using LED can save up to €160 every year. The cost of the bulbs is spread over a two or three-year contract so consumers pay as they save. Combine the €197 you can save with your smart in-home display with the €160 you will save with PINERGY LED and that a saving of €357 every year, on an average household bill of €1,200.

Enda Gunnell concluded “Our innovation journey continues. The technology available from PINERGYsmart will allow us to develop concepts such as Time of Use tariffs which will encourage more meaningful price competition and better management of the country’s power generation load, bringing benefits to both households and the country in general.
